To balance the beer post...

some lit-rit-chur.

I've read only 17. I've started some others (Gravity's Rainbow, Sound And The Fury, Naked Lunch, White Teeth), prolly own over half, have had one on my bedside table for the last year (Atonement), and my bookclub is reading another next (Under The Net).

Would it be considered a waste of time to have read one more than once (Infinite Jest)?

I think I've only read seven, and most of those were for school. I are unedumacated.

I was surpised to see Watchmen on the list. That's one I read outside of school. I recommend it highly.

I only post this because I just read it a few days ago (and because I'm a dick). Books are a load of crap.
Also, much like the author of that entry, I'm a "habitual non-finisher of books".

12 for me. I wonder how the average English major here would fare.

I'll have you know I don't just list books to seem cool, I buy 'em.

16 for me, though it would have been 17 had I read last month's book club selection. what's the justification for the 1923 cutoff?

Somehow, I managed to read 17.

Time was first published in 1923. I bet that's it.

A common misconception; in fact, it's because the public need for novels rose significantly during the summer of 1923 due to the abrupt cessation of juicy gossip on the U.S. Vice President. The reason: there was no U.S. Vice President. That's right, between August 2, 1923 and March 4, 1925 the position was vacant.

We started reading in earnest to mask the pain, and never stopped.

This bobe mayse brought to you by the letters "thjpcwn" and the number 37.

I don't know about English majors, but this comp sci major read 29 (30 if you count reading the first 25 pages of Gravity's Rainbow a million times).

Also, we I haven't read the mentioned Martin Amis book -- I highly recommend his books.

Tormp: He has a book called "Dead Babies".

uh, the word "we" was supposed to be "while" in the earlier post.

he should watch out. you don't exactly have to make a career of baby victimization before you develop a reputation.

so i think the next logical step here is to figure out how many we've read collectively, but that seems like a high cost / low yield operation.
