Can't help bragging.

Loyal readers of the minimalist weblog already know that the dalek is complete, but after such a long ordeal, I just wanted to post about it everywhere.

Sorry for the self-aggrandizement, and bring on the cockpunches.

I think your FDalek is it's own punishment and/or reward.

since you like to fabricate things: what materials are good for fabricating simple stuff on a pretty small scale (10^-4 meters)? what tools do you use? i suppose a dremel would be nice, but i'd like to avoid that kind of expense if possible.

for background, i opened up kyl's recently off-warranty ipod (and now definitely off-warranty ipod) and discovered a simple mechanical problem with the cheaply made hold switch.

i would like to replace a single plastic part with a functionally equivalent part, and am debating approaches to doing this. it's a little plastic tongue about 1x2x0.5 mm.

oh yes, and very nice 1/4 scale homicidal robot.

I suggest an x-acto knife (or maybe a scalpal) and a file. I, for one, can't control a dremel tool to a tolerance of 10^-4m.

I have a Dremmel now thanks to St. Nick, and you are welcome to borrow it or bring over items to dremmel.
However, I think Dewey is probably right. It sounds like you want sandpaper or a file. Maybe a Dremmel could be used to get to the right basic shape.
